Post subject:  Changing spark plug and wires...

I normally do all normal maintenance on my cars myself but I took a look at doing the spark plugs and wires and it looks like Mission Impossible in order to do them!

Anyone have any helpful tips or write ups on how to do this your self? The Haines manual is no help at all. I am guessing you would go from underneath?

Thanks in advance for any info on this matter.

Brian,
not much help from here, because i had mine at a Chevy dealer when i had an issue, they changed the plugs and the wires at that time (to fix a cylinder/plug fouling every 2000 miles). When i talked to the mechanic, he said that some you get to from above, and some from under the car.

Sorry

Thanks for the info, not sure if its worth the hassle or if I should just spend the $130 to get it done for me? :?

I'll go and check my Shop Manual and see what they're describing, that might clear it up a bit.. I'll be back tomorrow am..

They are not mission impossible but close! The plug wires are routed along the lower portion of the heads and some under the motor mounts. You will also have to remove some shielding. As said above some can be done from above and some from below..$130 sound like a good deal if it includes the parts. Just be sure they put all the shielding back.

If you are facing the engine from the left and right sides. You can get the first and middle spark plugs from the top and the last/rears that are closes to the fire wall from the bottom.

Brian,
i checked my shop manual, but i am guessing they figured, it's for a car shop so you SHOULD know how to take them out. I havent found anything usefull in regards to best way of replacing the plugs in there.
If it were me, i'd probably spend the money and not have to worry about it.

I was having issues with my car and had to pull the plugs so many times that I could do it blindfolded. I could get plugs 2,4,6,8 on the right and 1,3 on the left from the top. Plugs 5,7 get from underneath. I also put new looms on the car, a little bit of a pain but not that bad. Again some of the work was from top and some from underneath. If you can jack the front end up all the better. :D
