Does anyone know if the 84 hatch struts can be used in place of the 82s? They are fatter but will they work?

I had the chance to look at an 85 on Saturday, the struts are close, but the ends are way bigger on the 85, I think the length is shorter on the 85.
And the defroster wires are hooked up through the 85 struts.

I would assume the 84's are the same as the 85, so it looks like thats a dead road.

If your looking for alternatives to the expensive replacements. I found some that you can get at your local parts store that will work. They are a lot stronger then the stock ones. and will stretch your hinges faster. but if your desperate, they will work, and look pretty close.
